Charades

~I realized something today- Tom Brady is kind of amazing. I am in the middle of my Madden 08 season and I am an offensive juggernaut like the Patriots. I just recently dropped 80 on the Eagles, and 56 on the Redskins. I am now through 7 games, and with my QB I have thrown 24 TDs and 5 INTs. Tom Brady is doing better than I am in real life against real NFL football players. He is officially beyond crazy video game numbers, that's how good of a season he is having.

I also keep thinking back to the argument Kevin, Adam, and I had about which QB was better, Tom Brady or Peyton Manning. Kevin and Adam picked Manning because of the numerous passing records and unstoppable offense he ran, I picked Brady because of his leadership and 3 Super Bowl rings. Honestly though, I was just arguing because I wanted to argue. I really felt Manning was the better quarterback. Now? Now it really makes me think. Brady finally has weapons, and look what he's doing. I also wonder how much of it all is actually Brady. I mean, I watched yesterday's highlights against the Dolphins, and I watched Moss pretty much win two jump balls, Stallworth break five tackles on a 10 yard route, and Welker turn two slants into TDs. Is that Brady's good, or just his receivers being freakin' ridiculous? Probably both, but man is he putting up some crazy numbers.

~I will talk fantasy for just a second. I think the best way the characterize this fantasy season is to look at Kevin and Adam's matchup from this past week. The way it played out pretty much sums up the type of fantasy season that is going on this year. Kevin loses one of his starting quarterbacks in the first half, one of his running backs is held to a career rushing low and fumbles while the other fails to find the endzone, two of his receivers catch next to nothing, he starts a guy named Spaeth at tight end, his kicker LOSES three points...and he still wins. Fantasy 2007- it's like that.

~I read an interesting article about possible fantasy drafts for next year being more QB heavy in the first rounds rather than RB heavy, due to more passing plays (and thus more passing touchdowns) and the RBs by committee that have taken over the league. The writer predicted a top-10 next year could look like this:
1. Tom Brady, QB, New England
2. Peyton Manning, QB, Indianapolis
3. LaDainian Tomlinson, RB, San Diego
4. Tony Romo, QB, Dallas
5. Joseph Addai, RB, Indianapolis
6. Randy Moss, WR, New England
7. Carson Palmer, QB, Cincinnati
8. Larry Johnson, RB, Kansas City
9. Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota
10. Terrell Owens, WR, Dallas
Interesting to say the least, and I can't say that I agree with Owens being in the top-10, but can you really argue with Brady and Manning as your 1-2 picks in a league? Brady dropped 45 fantasy points last game, and he has officially become this years L.T. He is winning fantasy games all by himself. Manning is doing just fine as well, with 10 TDs. That's 2 every game...I would gladly take that sort of consistency.

~I have a teacher friend here in Maryland from the Cleveland area, and he was quite excited about Cleveland's chances after they went up 3-1. I talked to him after game 5 when they lost, and he said that they were done. It was a Lions mentality for a baseball team. It was as if the Indians had taken the halftime lead, but he knew they were the Indians, and they'd blow the game in the 4th quarter somehow. And sure enough he was right. I just can't believe being only a game away from the World Series you wouldn't hope a little bit. Apparently hope is dead in Cleveland- for everything that is sports. In Columbus this past weekend, before game 7, I was surprised to see more people on the streets with Boston Red Sox hats (I'm not counting you Adam) than Indians. That would never happen in Detroit. You walk the streets near Detroit, you are going to see old English D's. I'm finding it real interesting to see how cities react to their teams. Philly fans will root to the death, even if they know their team is going down. Cleveland fans are just resigned to their fates, and can accept it. Baltimore fans are delusional and cannot accept that one of their teams is mediocre or just not good (see Baltimore Ravens).

~Had a good trip to Columbus. I can't even begin to describe how much I miss Kevin and Adam sometimes. It was really nice to see those guys again, and just play video games, watch sports, and throw the football around. It was like old times. I even got to annoy the shit out of Kevin a little bit, so the trip was very worthwhile. Thank you Adam for letting us stay at your place. Remember, you guys are always welcome to come down here and stay if you'd like. Mi casa es su casa.

~I am now officially tired of driving. All night Friday. All day Sunday. Back and forth to work. And now tomorrow I pack my bags and head to camp with the sixth graders for two days...so back in my car I go. When I come back, my mom will be down to visit, so it's trips to Baltimore and D.C. to see the sites. No mas conduciendo. Conducir. That's driving, right? Did I conjugate that right? It's been a few years since high school Spanish =).

~Michael Crabtree sucked last week. I am still voting for him for the Heisman because I'm too stubborn to choose anyone else. Fuck all y'all, I'm going with the tree that's made out of crab.

Alrighty, gonna go pack. Holllllllllla!

Tom Brady is having a crazy year... he actually has receivers and it is making me question whether he is better than Peyton or not. Harrison and Wayne are much better targets than what Brady has ever had.

I am sad about that fantasy matchup this weekend... I don't know what else I could've done. Did you notice Kevin won on the last second junk TD pass from Pennington to Crotchety? I must admit... it makes me feel much better that the loss was to Kevin.

I REALLY question that list. That list is basically a current top 10 of players. How many people do you think will really draft Randy Moss over Palmer or LJ next year?

I really don't remember seeing anyone else w/ Red Sox caps. It was nice to be the "opposing" fan 2 days in a row. OH-FU! If it were Tigers/Red Sox in the ALCS, there's no way I'm wearing my Sox hat for at least a month around Detroit just out of respect. Tigers are still my number one team. How amazingly fun was it for me to watch the Red Sox kill the Indians in 6 & the end of 7 with ease? Incredible. The World Series will play out like this - Red Sox win 1 & 2 behind Beckett and Schilling, lose game 4 because Wakefield sucks my nuts right now. I can't decide if DiceK will win game 3, but it's not going 7. Manny will be the MVP.

I had been excited about last weekend for a long time and it was perfect. Thank you for making the very long drive down.

I did notice that...I cringed a little bit for you. Don't feel bad, you're not alone. I lost on a meaningless end of the game TD pass by Peyton. Not quite as bad as a hail marry, but I can relate a little.

The thing with that list is that Moss is outproducing Palmer and LJ...what is going to stop him? That being said, I'd definitely take Palmer, and then hope for a guy like Reggie Wayne in a later round. LJ has lost some of his mystique to me.

Rockies in 6. If Beckett loses once, Boston is in trouble. I think Colorado will get to him one out of the two times they face him, and that will deflate the Beantown's balloon. Sorry bud, Colorado has been playing out of this world. But like you said the other day, we'll see how much this layoff affects them.

Anybody notice the U.S. women's soccer coach got fired? Good riddance.

If Brady keeps going at his current pace, (I think he's on track to throw 65 TD's this season) he will demolish Manning's record. But even if that happens, I still think Manning is the better QB. It's just the way Manning runs the offense. It just seems...I don't know...prettier. The Colts offense is a sports car, the Patriots offense is a monster truck. I guess it's just the soccer player in me talking, but I like Manning over Brady.

As for next year's fantasy: There is no way I would take Romo over Addai, LJ or Peterson. And I would take LT over Manning. But I can definitely see Brady and Manning going in the top five next year. But only 4 RB's in the top 10? That's pushing it.

As for this year's fantasy: Love those garbarge time TD's!

And I'm glad we fired the US Women's soccer coach. He definitely deserved it.
