Name Game

Can you name the team that regularly plays (or played) in the following stadiums/arenas/fields? 1/2 point extra if you can give the name of the stadium/arena/field.

1.

2.
3. Okay, the team happens to be a country in this case...

4.

5. The stadium is gone and the team has relocated...if you're a Field of Dreams fan, this picture should be somewhat familiar. What team used to play here?

6.You get two pictures! This one is tricky...

7. This man took his act from the old stadium to the new...The stadium is tough to identify the team by, so hopefully the guy helps...

8.

9.

10. *sniffle*

1. KC Royals - Kauffman Stadium
2. Pacers - Canseco Field House - I knew this one was one of two arenas, that or the United Center because I think those are the only two where the Big 10 Tourney is played. I knew Canseco was correct because I could make out the word "field" at the opposite end of the court.
3. Manchester United - does that count?
4. UCLA - Rose Bowl
5. Brooklyn Dodgers - Polo Fields (which I believe now was actually the Giants)
6. Buffalo Bills - couldn't remember the stadium (why did we need the 2nd photo??)
7. Cleveland Indians - couldn't remember the stadium
8. N.O. Saints - Superdome
9. Boston Celtics - TD Banknorth Garden (it says that in the photo!)
10. Tigers - Tiger Stadium of course

I enjoyed that!

I said England for #3, but I had no idea about the stadium. I just recognized the flags in the crowd.

I said the Knicks for #9 because I thought it was Madison Square Garden.

I didn't even have a guess for the rest of them.

....I am terrible at your quizzes....

Very impressive, Adam!

Super impressed that you got Brooklyn Dodgers (good guess on the field, too!)and Cleveland Indians. I thought those were hard...and I suppose to Kevin they were =).

I gave two photos for the Buffalo one because the first photo showed just Pittsburgh in their retro jerseys, and I didn't know if the retro was that recognizable. Apparently it was.

I was hoping the "Garden" would make you think MSG...haha, I didn't even notice the 'TD Banknorth' at the top!

Kevin...I gave you Wembley! One of the most recognizable soccer stadiums! I gave you Tiger Stadium!!!

Glad you liked it. Final scores:
Adam: 12/10 (A+)
Kevin: 1/10 (E)

Haha, now I don't know whether to make the next one harder or easier...

What can I say, I don't care about stadiums. I wouldn't recognize Old Trafford or the Maracana or Azteca either.

Haha, but Tiger Stadium! That's in your own backyard!!!

And don't give me the "well I don't follow baseball" line! Not only was the stadium iconic in Detroit (and revolutionary when first built), it has the blue and orange stands representing Tiger colors, and the excavator beginning the recently (and hotly debated)demo! Goodness!

As for being in my own backyard, I probably wouldn't recognize Spartan Stadium or the Breslin Center unless it was decked out in MSU regalia. But I rarely ever even go to Detroit, the stadium was never iconic for me.

And there was never a hotly contested demolition debate. A vocal minority wanted to preserve the stadium, but they couldn't get enough support to save even a little corner of it. Nobody but a few diehards cares if it is demolished.

I'm not saying it's iconic to you, I'm saying it's iconic- period. I would wager that a majority of Michiganders could identify it, and I would bet my life that a majority of Michigan sports fans could.

70,000 people care and would disagree with you about only a "few diehards" want to see it stay. And unfortunately they couldn't get the funds to save it...which isn't that shocking that Detroiters weren't able to shell out the extra cash right now. I would agree that it's not a major issue (nor should it be with all the other problems the city has), but it's an issue and has been for quite some time now.

I completely disagree that most Michigander's could recognize Tiger Stadium from that photo. If you polled baseball fans in Michigan over 40, then I would agree.

70,000 would say that they would rather see it stay, but how many are willing to actually do anything to save it? Not very many...as you say, they couldn't raise enough money to save it.

If Detroiters really cared about Old Tiger Stadium, then Comerica Park would never have been built in the first place.

Mikey D said...

Wow, if they really cared about Old Tiger Stadium there wouldn't be Comerica??? Kevin...

Most everyone would agree that Tiger Stadium was outdated and that it was time for change. It was like an old house...eventually it gets to the point where you can spend tons of money refixing it, or you can spend it on something new. Detroit chose something new, which has NOTHING to do with how much they care for Tiger Stadium. You can move on and still care for something.

Secondly, because people truly do care, those 70,000 wanted to see Tiger Stadium turned into a museum of sorts...and it is a shame they couldn't come up with the money, but the fact they tried for years and years says a lot in my opinion. They loved their old house, and didn't want to see it go.

And I suppose we will have to disagree about most Michiganders not recognizing it. I just showed it to Grace and she was able to recognize it because it was "blue and orange, like the Tigers". And she's below 40 and from Philadelphia.

But we are soooooo way off topic right now!!! Bottom line is, I thought you should have been able to identify it. I felt it was a Michigan landmark, and obviously you see it otherwise. I see it as a Mt. Rushmore, you see it as bunch of concrete and steel.

I guess I will never understand why people get so attached to ball parks.

I'm out of arguments. I'm disappointed I couldn't provoke an angrier reaction though. I thought I could at least get a few curse words or something. I must be losing my touch.

Mikey D said...

Guess not. Maybe it's just a baseball thing, as most baseball lovers hold onto their history.

Hahaha, oh I cursed, so don't worry about losing your touch. Just ask Grace, she had to listen to me all last night complain about you being dumb =).

Kevin said...

Haha, excellent. In that case, I am satisfied.
