Who's Your Spartan?

Durrell Summers is mine. How can you not love watching this guy play??? He seems to have it all. He can shoot the 3. He can drive and dunk with authority. He makes big plays. Crashes the boards. You name it, he does it.

I'd say Lucas is still our best player, and maybe Suton second (based on the experience and presence he gives us inside), but Summers, without hesitation, is top 3. Yes, that leaves the highly regarded Raymar Morgan out, but come on now, Raymar isn't a game changer. You don't have to game plan against him. He's good, but he's not great. Summers is becoming great.

Last night (with Morgan out), Summers was spectacular. Come to think of it, I can't remember Summers having a bad game yet...he's the one consistent player on an inconsistent team.

Speaking of inconsistency, 29 points over Minnesota? If I had to place my life on the line in a bet, it would have been that MSU would have beaten Minnesota last night, based solely on the fact they were embarrassed by PSU at home last game (no disrespect to Minnesota, they just caught us angry). But 29 points over a top-20 team? Wow. And without Morgan. While I am not going to say one bad thing about last night's game, it is very frustrating as a fan to watch this team lose at home to Northwestern and PSU, and then slaughter a ranked opponent by 30. Come tournament time we will either make the final four, or lose in the first round to the Penn Quakers. I have a feeling there will be no in-between.

Raymar has had a terrible season. We needed another player to fill that scoring gap, and Summers has been stepping up. He has played well, but I don't think he is a "game-changer" that other teams are game planning against. (although maybe that will change...which could mean that Summers production could drop significantly...)

What do you mean Summers is yours? Am I not hip with the new lingo?

He's my Spartan! (when you say, "Am I not hip with the new lingo" I feel like I'm missing out on one of your jokes or many random quotes)

Nobody has game planned against Summers, but hopefully when they do, Raymar will step up. That's my hope.

Mine is Goran Suton. I think he has learned how to defend almost anyone in the country and his offense has improved as well. Raymar hasn't taken over as a leader, but Lucas has.

I think we have all of the "requirements" to be a good tournament team.
-Face a difficult schedule w/ some quality wins (Kansas, Texas)
-Win on the road
-Depth
-Speedy guard

What we lack are 3 or more 1st Round NBA draft picks (or a top 5 overall pick). Summers or Lucas are possibilities, but nobody else really is. It's important - look at the past few championship teams.

You're right. I don't think it's impossible to win the championship, but its definitely more of a challenge.

If I were to list my favorites for the championship, they'd be:
1. North Carolina
2. Pittsburgh
3. Louisville
4. Connecticut
5. Marquette

Yes, lots of love to the Big East

OH! I didn't read the title...I get it now. No jokes, I'm just an idiot.

no WAY is the Big East that good come tournament time.

Yes, they always look good during the regular season, but they have 16 friggin' teams, 3 of which currently have an overall losing record (there's only 1 team in that category in the each of the Big 10, SEC, and Big 12).

Working with a Pitt alum has provided me with the insight in their history so I'm not sold on their hype. They are a very good team and look great on paper, but they won't be in the Elite 8.

1. North Carolina
2. UConn
3. Oklahoma
4. Memphis
5. Louisville
