Love me some Texas Tech!
Besides Michigan State this is by far my favorite college team. Love the offense. Love the coach (did you know he went to law school?). Love that each member of the offensive line has a nickname, like 'Mankind'. Love that their kicker was a student two weeks ago and won a contest for free rent, and then the starting kicker job.
Oh, and I love Michael Crabtree...did you know?
College football is not my favorite sport, I am a pro guy, and I've made that known before. But yesterday I was actually excited to watch Texas-Texas Tech. It's been a long while since I've been this pumped about a college football game- and it delivered.
Hell of a game, and if it was on Texas' turf, they probably would have won it. They were a few seconds away from winning this one. But I don't want to get into all the details of the game. Just the last play of the game.
Michael fucking Crabtree. Game on the line. 28 yards from the win. Last chance. Watch that play. Harrell got him the ball, but then Michael Crabtree, with two defenders, spins off one, and just races to the endzone. If you watch it, he does it so effortlessly. Think about it though- if just one of them can push Crabtree just a few more inches to the sideline and out of bounds, the game is over. No more time on the clock. Tech will lose the game. Crabtree gets away from both defenders for the game winning score. Fantastic.
Crabtree's final line was 10 catches, 127 yards, and that game winning score. He put up those numbers against the number one team, and you have to remember that defenses now are trying to stop him! He's the guy secondaries are paying the most attention to! Amazing.
Please give him some Heisman love. I don't care if he doesn't win it, just put his name in the mix. Even Herbstreit said, "Michael Crabtree, the best player in college football." What's the definition of the Heisman again?
And if I had a choice, I'd love to see Florida-Texas Tech in the National Championship. I think SEC-Big 12 would be the match-up of the two premiere conferences, and in my opinion, these are the two most exciting teams from each.
My Top 5:
1. Penn State
2. Alabama
3. Texas Tech
4. Florida
5. USC

Love me a college football post. The parts of the game I saw last night were great, except for the fans who rushed the field 3 times because they are stupid. Did you see that the final kickoff was from their own 7 yard line due to penalties on the students?! That almost cost them the game!!
Crabtree is legitimately great. He's not going to fail in the pros because he has excellent size and a lot of power. Well, unless he's on the Lions.
I think it's interesting that you want to see Florida-Texas Tech in the National Championship, yet neither are in your top 2.
Speaking of the top teams, does anyone else think Alabama is a pretender?
By the way - you know that if we beat Purdue and Penn State, we're going to the Rose Bowl, right?
Well I think Florida and Texas Tech are the two best based on what I've seen from each. Granted Florida has one loss, but if money were on the line, I'd take them over Penn State and Alabama. The polls, however, need to have fairness. For the sake of the little integrity left in the sport, the undefeated teams need to be at the top, and one undefeated team shouldn't jump another (Tech jumping Penn State this week, for example). If you thought they were better last week, and they didn't lose this week...well they should still be ranked higher!
I think Alabama is a pretender. They've played some mediocre competition, and I think we all see now that the win against Georgia wasn't as impressive as we initially thought...
Would MSU be Big 10 champs? Is that why we'd go to the Rose?
I think we can handle Purdue (knock on wood), but it's going to take a miracle to beat Penn State. Hoyer will have to play the game of his life and our defense HAS to make plays (get at least 3 turnovers).
I was rooting for Texas Tech and I'm glad they won, but Texas should have had that interception to ice the game.
Go Green! If we beat Purdue, I would be OK if we lost to Penn State. (as long as we won our bowl game)
Oh there are a thousand coulda-shoulda-woulda's in a game! Bottom line is this: Tech was down to their last play and were 28 yards from the endzone. They had two guys on Crabtree. And they let him score...to me, that was a bigger botch than the missed INT.
I'll admit that there were other shoulda/woulda plays. But the blown interception was the biggest.
The TD throw wasn't the last play though. If Crabtree had been forced out of bounds (or just intentionally ran out), Tech would have had an opportunity to kick a field goal. The only way it would have been the last play is if he had been tackled in-bounds.
Great play from Crabtree and definitely a poor defensive effort from Texas, but not as big as the missed INT.
Agree to disagree. In reality, Tech doesn't have much of a kicker. Do you want to put the "student-athlete" onto the field with the game on the line against the number one team? I don't care if it's 25 yards or 50 yards, that's a field goal I wouldn't want my walk-on kicker taking. For me, the Crabtree play was the game, and not one, but TWO Texas defenders had a chance to stop it.
