One more. Just one more. Let's do this for Payne, for Appling, and for Izzo and his streak. Come on, State, you're almost there!!! Go Green!
I think "The Wall" started back in 2005 during MSU's improbable Final Four run with guys like Kelvin Torbert, Alan Anderson, and Shannon Brown. We were a 5-seed that year, and entering the tournament had gotten thoroughly demolished by Iowa. There wasn't a lot of hope for us going into the tournament based on our "State" of play, but the talent was there. A lot of people forget that we went 13-3 in the B1G that year, overshadowed by a ridiculously good Illinois team. But, a few great games later (that Kentucky game was awesome), we were in the Final Four.
This year's team comes in at a 4-seed, although I'm pretty sure nobody in the country thinks they are the 13-16th best team right now. Unlike the 2005, we seem to be hitting our stride coming into the tournament, and expectations are high. We'll see how this squad deals with the expectations, which is hopefully better than it has all season. But like the 2005 season, we have the pieces to make a run, and a motivated group of upperclassmen that want to keep MSU's Final Four streak alive. After a dominate B1G tournament (seriously, is there ANY DOUBT as to who the best team in the B1G is when all teams are healthy?), it's easy to get excited about the potential.
One game at a time though, and first up are the Delaware Blue Hens. Blue and gold. Winged football helmets. They wanna be like Michigan? Let's beat em' down like Michigan! Go Green!
